Welcome in the Vascular Surgeon Marco Cosimi’s website. The website is set up to inform the colleagues about new and present diagnostic possibilities and their wide therapeutic applications.
I was born in Rome on 06/04/1960, in the Monteverde area near Villa Doria Pamphili. I’ve always been keen on swimming and tennis that I played in the “Gianicolo” tennis club. I’ve always had a good relationship with my parents: the true and plain family ties, together with the passion for medicine, were the resources that made me able to graduate in Medicine, one year in advance, at “La Sapienza” University in Rome.
For this reason, they had put job to me in the Research and Development field since 1986. So, in 1987 I took a job as Research and Development responsible (R & D Cardiovascular Research Department) for Janseen Beers, associate with Johnson & Johnson, which was appointed by “Science Magazine” as the third best employer in the research world in 2002. This great opportunity allowed me to travel all around the world next to big names who made Research and Scientific Development the main aim of their life.
Everything during my specialization in surgical techniques:
I took my specialistic degree in vascular surgery at Policlinico Universitario “A. Gemelli” in Rome, always interested in the phlebological diseases.
I’m a member of numerous medical–scientific Societies, such as the A.C.O.I. (The Hospital Surgeons’ Association) and “The Italian Society of Phlebolymphology“. I was one of the first members, at its beginning in the 90s, of the G.I.U.V.: Italian Group of Vascular Ultrasonology. In that period its President was the emeritus and late lamented Professor Borgatti, Angiology Head Physician of the S.Orsola Malpighi Hospital in Bologna, whose I’ll never forget the love for the diagnostic evolution of the most updated eco-color-doppler and the clinical strictness, together with the availability with his collaborators. First of all I remember the professional friendship with a great angiologist, Professor Scondotto, who initiated me in a deep knowledge of the Velocimetric Eco-color-doppler Analysis. It was a unique equipe, which contributed to the creation of one of the best Italian Schools in Eco-color-power-doppler, well-known in the international angiological world of those years. So I went deep into the eco-color-power-doppler methodology, at the Policlinico Universitario “A.Gemelli”. My friendship with the Professor Snider, with which I defended my experimental thesis of specialization, has ever been a brilliant example of skilful clinician and surgeon, during my specialization in Vascular Surgery.
The direct and more actual acquaintance of the doctor-scientist Sergio Capurro, fervent mind in the Italian medical and surgical field, humble inventor of a lot of essential patents for the contemporary medical development, with his deep intellectual integrity besides his clinical synthesis skill, with his histological and physiopathological strictness, impressed in myself the suitable energy to look at the current phlebological horizon with a different perspective. Its development turns now not only to the vein, but to the “proctology” too.
Precious for me the friendship with the flebologo (at the San Paolo University in Brazil) Doctor Kasuo Miyake, maintained with an epistolary exchange regarding our therapeutic and diagnostic experiences and the meetings during the international phlebological congresses.
I really thank, sign of sincere esteem for the example of steady professional devotion and of human attention to every patient, the Professor Vincenzo Blandamura, Head Physician of U.O.C. where I work at the Sant’Eugenio Hospital in Rome.
I have been acquiring an hospital experience since twenty years in Italy, most of all at the U.O.C. of Emergency Surgery of the S.Eugenio Hospital in Rome.
I took three surgical specializations in different Universities in Rome.
Also for these reasons, I’ve developed my outlook without prejudices and with the awareness of the aims of the current surgical Research & Development.
Paying ever attention to the causes of the main vein diseases, I’ve come to the conclusion that the “principle of osmolar balance” is really important during the sclerosing and not ablative treatment of the vein walls, technique that I often use for the excellent results achieved.
If we’ll learn to spread in the international medical field our personal experiences, in the progress of the capabilities, for example in the USA or European Hospitals, we’ll share our enthusiasm, so to feel obliged to acquaint everyone with his own high progressive considered experience. This is what happened to me, for example with the Vein Viewer and other tridimensional diagnostic methodologies that allows you to integrate the different levels of phlebological diagnosis concerning the superficial and perforating veins.
The physiopathological acquisition of the real flow of the perforating veins, deepened by the light of the current diagnostic methodologies, which permit to go deep to the vein hemodynamics, complementary to the eco-color-doppler use in the phlebological field, have to drive us to examine thoroughly some commonplaces. The patients themselves, interested in the application of different diagnostic approaches, some of them maintained by a “not tridimensional” vision of the vein circle, that sometimes prevent from going near the solution of the real causes of many diseases, to face them I consider the experience ripened using recently imported methodologies, that I’ve been knowing since the beginning, extremely useful for their no-invasive and diagnostic and visualizing capability of the superficial and perforating veins.
For these reasons I’m incited, because of my interest in the medical knowledge evolution, to the necessary comparison of our personal phlebological experiences and opportunities, offered by the current international diagnostic methodologies in respect of the different national medical Society in the sector: the real guiding light of our discipline.
Considering the utility, considering patients’ interest, in stating my experiences, matured at the cost of the large amount of time stolen to my beloved family, in the continuous evolutionary ferment of the international phlebological world.
With regard to myself,
I’m happily married with Natalina, who has always worked with passion as herbalist. We also have two children to our great joy.
Even if I carry on my job in a big Hospital in Rome, I’ve always chosen to cover the many kilometers to the E.U.R area, putting my family before the distance to my work place, so to had rewarded my personal commitments.
My hobbies are my family, passion for my job and for essay reading.
I like listening to the symphonic music and the great classics. I appreciate Jazz music in all its expressions. Sometimes it’s enough driving my motorbike, on the local roads among the hills of the “Sabina” territory to reach serenity, enjoying fresh air and the land smell, the taste of the freedom, changing as days and seasons are.
The “Sabina” is the territory where I live and that I’ve always loved in an irrational way; respecting his history, it’s however an healthy industrial and commercial pole, where the balance of living in a “human dimension” coexists with a land as generous as his inhabitants: different ethnic groups with their rich traditions that live in mutual respect.
So it is, maybe thanks to the “Sabina” too, simple and true land, that rose in me the desire of breaking down the comfortable practical habits to plunge into the medical and scientific reality, that is always on the go, that is continuous dialectics, that is a comparison among medical-scientific experiences .
Hoping my humble contribution will be appreciated.
It’s difficult loving people we don’t esteem; but it isn’t less loving those we esteem more than ourselves.
